I am delighted to share the news that South-African composer Johan de Cock has joined EVC Music and his brand new book My Piano Trip To Africa will be released later this Autumn.
However, to give you a taste of what’s to come, Johan and I are literally buzzing with excitement as one of the tunes from My Piano Trip To Africa is released today and it is called An Angry Fly. It is available as a digital download with a single user (£1.49) and a studio licence (£7.95) and can be previewed and ordered here – click >
Humorous and original An Angry Fly will be perfect for your young students at approximately Gr 1 ABRSM level who will be flying through it.
The rest of the piano works that will be included in this brand new and very exciting collection, as you might have guessed, will be based on Johan’s home country of Africa. We are working on this delightful collection of piano pieces for the enjoyment of your young students who are learning to play the piano.
Composer Johan de Cock was born in Namibia and grew up in sub-tropical Zululand, and the mountainous Cape Province in South Africa. From an early age, Johan showed a great interest in all types of music, including the indigenous sounds of African drums and percussion, as well as Western art music. His first musical compositions were for plays at school, and Roman Catholic liturgical music. He studied classical piano, harpsichord and organ performance at the University of Stellenbosch (in the celebrated wine region), and afterwards, worked in Cape Town as a piano accompanist, arranger, and musical director for theatre and cabaret shows.
Since 2000, Johan lives in Brighton, UK with his wife and cat, where he teaches piano and theory, composes and records music, and organises a variety of musical concerts and events. Vist this website to find out more about Johan – click here >.
