    My pet peeve is the lack of introductory jazz/blues style music for students. Not only will my young ones be very gently and gradually introduced to the keyboard, they will also start a life-long love of jazz/blues music. The student portions are simple, allowing for them to learn step-by-step and with straight-forward rhythms. However, the teacher portions expose students to much more interesting and complex rhythms and sounds, without having to master them. My students love to play duets (much more even than backing tracks). Duets are an opportunity to bond with students and collaborate. Not only is “My Piano Trip to London” a gentle introduction to music, it is also a gentle introduction to so much more: ear training, collaboration, rhythm, accompaniment and blues. Where else will you find an introduction to the twelve-bar blues for little ones, I ask you? Roosmari Croeser

    I’m very impressed with the pleasing layout and graphics throughout the book. A sticker page of various London graphics is also included with the book. The London theme will provide great interest and learning moments for the teacher and student to enjoy.

    As all piano teachers know, there are a lot of childern, who love playing the piano but not so keen on learning to read the notes. This problem can be easily solved with the book by Elena Cobb. Children can’t take their eyes of these beautiful pages and learn to read the notation with ease. The book delivers success!

    This book is a very useful source of fun tunes, that will carry you through from a complete beginner upwards. It is very easy to work with and study, full of illustrations and fun facts for children.
    I use this book with all of my beginners now, as it lets them explore slightly different/jazzy style of music, compare to other books. I find it very useful that the hand positions are not stuck to the same thumbs on middle C position. As tunes build up it encourages the pupil to move around the stave, therefore they are less likely to be accustomed to the middle C position to that extend that they see G in bass clef and automatically engage 4th finger of the LH; or D in treble clef does not trigger the index finger of the RH.
    The book works wonderfully for many of my students; but I also have this specific pair of students are in joint lesson and with slightly different abilities; though started at the same time, the older girl is ready to race off, away from her younger sister. This books help me to let them do things together, as well as giving them different levels challenges.

    I am using this for the first time with a 4-5 year old who was previously on another method book but not showing much interest. After receiving her book, she came back the next week and told me she looked through the whole book and can’t wait to work on the book! When I played the teacher duet part with my pupil for the first time, her face just lit up! The teacher duet parts complement the pieces so well and make the pupils really excited about playing the pieces! It is also a great idea that Elena left out fingerings so that the teachers can use the pieces in the way they want it to. There are fun theory pages also and a fab backing track. A music book based on London is a great idea and will no doubt generates lots of interest with my pupils ! Thank you Elena for your great work!

    Most recently, I used this book with a student who just needed some fun sight-reading music plus some new melodies to sing along with. This book worked like a charm and brought this student out of her shell. She loved the sound of the duets (these are definite stand-out arrangements…bluesy, jazzy and easy to want to repeat), and the songs had us both grinning from ear to ear. This book was exactly what we needed – from the charming artwork and theory activities to the easy-to-sing (and hard to forget) lyrics and melodies, this book is playful, inspiring and one of my new favorites to make sure music stays vibrant and colorful for my students!
