Colonsay Ceilidh by Donald Thomson is a light-hearted jig with a twist for intermediate level. The repeated notes are characteristic of the traditional style of this kind of music, and the melody is based on the pentatonic scale, commonly used in folk music and includes a bagpipe drone in places for the left hand. A Ceilidh is a Gaelic word for an evening of music, dancing and usually quite a lot of whiskey. This is a piece to get your toes tapping and your fingers flying. This pieces can be played at a slightly slower speed than indicated as it will sound well at a slightly more relaxed tempo too. Colonsay is one of the islands of the inner Hebrides – here’s some more info here >
