Rock and Roll for piano by Paul Birchall for the intermediate level piano player.
TWO PLAY-ALONG TRACKS included with the score
COMPOSER’S ADVICE
Rock and Roll as a style emerged in America around the late 1940s. Musically, it is a combination of African American musical genres such as Blues, Gospel and Boogie-Woogie. Artists like Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard used the piano as their main instrument and in their performances, which created a musical revolution. Paul Birchall’s Rock and Roll Piano is based on the twelve-bar Blues chord structure and successfully captures the feel of rock-and-roll popular in the 1950s. For the player, the challenge will be to maintain the driving rhythm with a sense of spontaneity.
RECOMMEND
Can be used as a choice piece for the Rock School exam Gr 4-5 when played with the backing track.
