by Donald Thomson
From A Hebrides Suite view >
Colonsay Ceilidh by Donald Thomson is a light-hearted jig with a twist for intermediate level. The repeated notes are characteristic of the traditional style of this kind of music, and the melody is based on the pentatonic scale, commonly used in folk music and includes a bagpipe drone in places for the left hand. A Ceilidh is a Gaelic word for an evening of music, dancing and usually quite a lot of whiskey. This is a piece to get your toes tapping and your fingers flying. This piece can be played at a slightly slower speed than indicated as it will sound well at a slightly more relaxed tempo too.

A proper toe-tapper! I have a number of students who would enjoy this – can’t wait to introduce it to them.

Another great piece from Donald Thomson, and definitely fun additional piece for some of my students – especially those who also like traditional music.
