So many pedagogical pieces prepare students to play formulaic classical music, but pieces like these are much needed to get students out of their comfort zone gradually and prepare them for more modern styles of music.

Melanie Spanswick is a British concert pianist, author, teacher, presenter, blogger and adjudicator. A graduate of the Royal College of Music in London, Melanie studied with Patricia Carroll, Tatiana Sarkissova, and John Lill. Whilst at the RCM she won many prizes including the Marjorie and Arnold Ziff prize for ‘the most outstanding postgraduate pianist of the year’ and she graduated with a Master’s degree. Melanie has performed at all the major UK concert halls as well as many around the world, has made two solo recordings and has broadcast on Classic FM, BBC Radio 2, CBC Radio, Swedish and Spanish Television. Highlights include performances for the Queen Mother and Danish Royal family. Melanie has taught the piano at Reading University and the Royal College of Music Junior Department. She has also examined for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and currently adjudicates for the British and International Federation of Festivals.
