Donald Thomson is a composer, piano teacher, and accompanist living near Edinburgh, Scotland. His love of the piano came from his mother, a very successful piano teacher, and he eventually studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. A love of the folk music of Scotland infuses his compositional style, inspired by Gaelic songs, fiddle, and pipe tunes, and he has been learning the Gaelic language since late 2019. He has had a successful career in music publishing as an editor and music engraver and if you go into a music shop and open a book, if it's published by Faber or Kevin Mayhew, it's likely that his name is inside as an engraver. Donald recently formed a duo with an Edinburgh-based Russian cellist and they have given recitals in the city as well as performances at weddings. He is the accompanist for the Dalkeith Singers and Southside Choir, performing several times a year which also gives him the opportunity to compose choral music.

Aside from music, his interests include art galleries - he is married to a talented amateur artist - travel, and his pride and joy, his Triumph motorcycle, which he uses to explore Scotland.
