Elena Cobb finds her inspiration in the musical world around her, and the six pieces in this book are evocative of Blues, Latin and other musical styles popular today.
Elena’s ‘Higgledy Piggledy Jazz’ series was aimed at a beginner audience but she has never forgotten her interest in composing music for aspiring pianists who are at Intermediate to Advanced levels – so this book is for them.
Murray McLachlan, International Piano, Sept/Oct 2013
"This is A HUGELY ENJOYABLE COLLECTION of six original, well crafted and highly accessible pieces for grade 6+ players in need of some light-hearted pianistic relief. The opening number, Blue River, could swing nicely along under the hands of even the most timid intermediate level players, while the more knowledgeable and adventures will smile at the witty references to Rhapsody in Blue in Mrs Van Der Blond. Particularly effective, too, are the CLEVER VOICINGS that evoke the sounds of an accordion player in Tango Leone. Elsewhere, we have more of the blues, a touch of the silver screen in Star Dust and some Latin-American dance, too. Explore and enjoy. "

"My absolute favourite piece is ‘Cloud Seven Latin’ and I can see this and some of the other pieces becoming GREAT CONCERT, GCSE AND COMPETITION PIECES FOR my pupils whatever their age."
Melanie Spanswick, concert pianist and author of 'So You Want to Play the Piano?'
"Blue River would suit intermediate level players from around Grades 5-7, but is actually also great sight-reading material (I had a lot of fun playing through it!). There’s no denying that Elena’s music will BOTH ENTERTAIN AND INSPIRE YOUNG PLAYERS to enjoy the learning process." Read full review

"The rhythms, forms, and harmonies are sophisticated and the textures totally satisfying. Here you will find all manner of jazz and blues styles—Boogie-Woogie to Latin to Pop. My favorites are the two Latin pieces, Cloud Seven, Latin and Tango Leone. These two pieces really are infectious. The syncopation is logical but still surprising and the writing falls so well under the hands that you just can’t help smiling as you dig in." Read full review

"In Blue River album we move up a gear, and there are elements of chords that are great in sound, coupled with catchy rhythms- I am in my element here! The very best tunes so far, and in my opinion, are `Tango Leone,' and `Cloud Seven, Latin.' This is definitely my kind of music - incidentally, I am a great fan of Jacques Loussier (Jazz Bach), and Astor Piazzolla (Tango). Both albums though, of Elena Cobb, are very exciting, and have excellent value for money."
